Description
Salzl Figaro Grüner Veltliner is an expressive and refined white wine from Austria’s Burgenland region, crafted from old vines (“Alte Reben”) planted on brown earth soils of sandy clay with abundant gravel. This Grüner Veltliner combines elegance, minerality, and vibrant fruit character, offering a distinctive taste of its terroir.
Meet the Producer
Salzl Winery, led by winemaker Christoph Salzl, is known for producing terroir-driven wines that reflect the soils and climate of Burgenland. Their focus on old vines, careful vineyard management, and precise winemaking ensures wines of exceptional purity and complexity.
Production
Grapes are hand-harvested from old-vine blocks and fermented in small oak barrels at 15°C to preserve freshness and enhance aromatic expression. Lees stirring is carried out regularly to build texture and mouthfeel.
Maturation
The wine is matured on its lees, developing richness, complexity, and a creamy, layered palate while retaining vibrant acidity and varietal purity.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in colour, Salzl Figaro reveals aromas of green apple, white pepper, and subtle floral notes. The palate is structured yet elegant, with fine mineral character, balanced acidity, and a long, precise finish.
Food Match
Pairs beautifully with white meats and poultry (including dark meat for histamine-sensitive diners), seafood such as shellfish, offal including lungs and liver, and complex Asian dishes.
