HOW:Puni’s Gold edition is aged four years in ex-Bourbon casks and PX Sherry butts, imparting the flavors of American oak into the whisky that bolster the malt’s inherent fruitiness, rounded out with the raisined richness from the Pedro Ximenez sweet wine.Puni also uses three types of malted grains for its mash bill (barley, wheat, and rye), giving the whiskey added definition, and making it simply a malt whisky, rather than a single malt from only one type of grain.
- WHAT:After years of contemplation and planning, builder Albrecht Ebensperger quite literally laid the foundation ofthe first Italian whisky distilleryin 2010 called Puni. The distillery sits in the midst of the Alps, near the Ortler mountain range, just outside the small town of Glurns in the Vinschgau valley.The distillery takes its name from the nearbyPuni river, which flows through the Vinschgau valley.
