This expression from the Portsoy-based Glenglassaugh Distillery is matured in octave casks, 1/8th the size of a regular butt, allowing for more interaction between the wood of the cask and the spirit itself. This non chill-filtered, natural coloured expression is bottled at 44% abv.

The unpeated edition in the second batch of octave-matured whisky from Glenglassaugh. Octaves are small casks holding just 65 litres of whisky and add loads of oaky flavour to its contents in just a short time. This release is a vatting of these tiny casks that previously held bourbon, Pedro Ximénez and amontillado sherry, creating a complex, rich and nutty dram.

Nose: Full of sherbet and candy apples with a warming note of white pepper and cinnamon.

Palate: Green apple peel balanced with stewed plums and hints of black vanilla pod.

Finish: Combines citrus and sweet notes with oak aspects from the octave casks.

Distillery Information

The Glenglassaugh distillery is a malt scotch whisky distillery which restarted production in November 2008 after being acquired by an independent investment group. Following a complete refurbishment by the new owners the distillery was re-opened on 24 November 2008 by the First Minister for Scotland Alex Salmond.
