This limited-edition commemorative 90th Birthday Edition Single Barrel Sour Mash Bourbon honors the now late Elmer, but was the barrels used for this bottling were still personally selected by the legend himself. Released in 2009, this NAS Whiskey is rumored to be derived from Buffalo Trace’s #2 mash bill that contains 12-15% rye, and carries sweetly toned aromatics of caramel and toffee candy over smoky char, with a rye spice-laden palate with vanilla, and faintly fruity undertones. Supremely rare and collectible.

Elmer T. Lee became the master distiller at the Buffalo Trace Distillery back in 1949. His image decorates every bottle of his namesake Bourbon. It is a single barrel Bourbon — which means that even thought they follow the same formulas and procedures, bottles from different casks will taste different. The main line Elmer T. Lee is a four year old expression (but they have issued longer-aged limited editions here and there). It is a premium Bourbon at the lower end of the premium price scale and 45% ABV. It has notes of walnuts and butter toffee with oak and a bit of orange zest. The finish is dry with trailing spices and more woodiness.
