The Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru from Domaine Drouhin-Laroze comes from a plot located on the sides of Chambolle-Musigny on red, shallow, ferruginous and clay soils. The Bonnes-Mares appellation is considered the Grand Cru par excellence. It was aged at 80% in new oak barrels. It is characterized by complex aromas of blackcurrant buds, small red fruits, liquorice and spices with floral notes such as rose, which give it finesse and elegance. In the mouth it reveals a beautiful density.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2016 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was made from two cuvées, one destemmed and the other not, so that there is around 30% whole bunch. It has a very well-defined bouquet with outstanding tension and focus. The palate is pure and silky smooth, more red fruit than black, very harmonious with very well-integrated new oak (80%). This is the best that the domaine has ever made. Period. Chapeau Nicolas and Caroline.
- Wine Spectator: Rich in black cherry and black currant flavors, a velvety texture and tannins, this red shows youthful harmony, yet will need time to reveal its charms. Elegant and succulent, featuring a long, spice- and mineral-infused finish.
Producer Information
Five generations have been running the Domaine for 163 years, Caroline and Nicolas, Christine and Philippe’s children represent the sixth. In 1850, Jean-Baptiste Laroze started a vineyard operation in Gevrey Chambertin. He was later succeeded by Felix LarozeAROZE. Each successive generation continued to develop the Estate with the sole objective of investing in hillside vineyards, which was a visionary and risky choice. At the time, those vineyards were already very expensive and not very productive. The bet paid off and today, thanks to the sacrifices and risk-taking of the previous generations, the 11.50 hectare Estate is one of the most prestigious in terms of diversity, quality and the surface area of its appellations.
